Listening Party with The BLAC Arts Centre and MadebyWe

Sunday, 9 October 2022 - Produced in collaboration with The BLAC Arts Centre and MadebyWe, this event draws on Stan Douglas' use of Grime and Mahraganat by inviting DJs from MadebyWe to create and perform mixes on the themes "Investigating Canadian Blackness" and "Music is The Weapon". There will also be a performance by Vancouver rapper Sad Boy Denzel. Admission is by donation, and includes entry to Stan Douglas: 2011 ≠ 1848 . Please visit and RSVP About The Black Arts Centre (BLAC) Located in the heart of Surrey, directly beneath Surrey Central Station, the Black Arts Centre exists to support and celebrate Black art and artists across a variety of disciplines at a local, national, and international scale, by hosting exhibitions, performances, events, workshops, and other diverse programming. The Black Arts Centre is a response to their community's need for a Black-friendly art and gathering space that is culturally relevant and accessible. About MadebyWe MadebyWe (Hafiz Akinlusi, Kene Esomeju, Mada Phiri and Vanessa Fajemisin) is a Black-owned and operated community-centred creative project focused on ideas. At the intersect of creativity and culture, MBW explores stories and themes through design, images, objects, and experiences. Everything MBW does starts with intention and is rooted in their unique histories, perspectives, and values. About Sad Boy Denzel Sad Boy Denzel, born Denzel Marcial Guedes, is a Canadian rapper and YouTuber. Denzel started rapping in 2016 but only started making music in 2017 under multiple aliases. He released his first EP, The 9883 Prelude in 2021 just before releasing his debut album, 9883. Denzel credits his rap style to the late 90s and early 2000s of hip hop music. His inspirations list of Jay-Z, Timbaland, 50 Cent and many more. - Event Details
