"Cantonese opera is a traditional art form that dates back to the 13th century and blends music, singing, acrobatics, acting and martial art. The art was imported from Northern China and slowly migrated to the South, where it was adapted to the local Cantonese Dialect and took on a milder less shrill tone than what's typically heard in Peking Opera." Susanne Ma in Metro August 16, 2012. Cantonese opera made it first presence in Vancouver, BC about 125 years ago when the city was incorporated. Chinatown was the centre of this art which was the most propular entertainment in Chinese communities. It flourished since 1980 and each year there are more than 100 performances in theartres and community auditoriums in Vancouver, Richmond and Burnaby. Greater Vancouver becomes the most important place for Cantonese performances outside of China and Hong Kong.  .
