Walk and explore an outdoor, multi-media installation that immerses you in the sights and sounds of Vimy Ridge 100 years ago. A premiere by LocoMotoArt.. Event detailsLocoMotoArt is pleased to announce the premiere of Arbres de Mémoire (Trees of Memory), a media installation that provides an immersive and interactive site-responsive experience.Trees of Memory combines computer visualizations projected on trees and grasses in the lower garden of Aberthau Mansion with performances of soundscapes that reflect stories and sounds of war. This event honours those who gave their lives 100 years ago at Vimy Ridge during WW1.During the evening, we will invite you walk and explore the small Cottonwood grove on the meadow grounds of Aberthau Mansion. The grove has uncanny features similar to that of the iconic group of trees at Vimy Ridge back in the day.  Watch the trunks of trees and the canopy of leaves overhead—you will see projections of collaged images of soldiers, nurses, horses and war machines from archival film footage, taken during the battle of Vimy Ridge.Gather in the gym at 8:30pm to view large-scale historic photographs and artefacts displayed by The Seaforth Highlanders, our special guests for the evening. The Seaforth Highlanders fought bravely at Vimy and many lost their lives.Sound artist Dave Leith will perform a live soundscape and performs with fellow Vancouver sound artist, Lee Hutuzlak. Artist Rob Scharein will display a series of 3-D Anaglyphs, similar to stereoscopic images, from photographs taken at Vimy Ridge a century ago.Schedule8:30pm - Meet at West Point Grey Community Centre for opening remarks, display of photographs and artefacts, and refreshments.9:30pm - Join the procession to the lower garden meadow of Aberthau Mansion to explore the digital installation accompanied by a live soundscape performance.Dress suitablyWe will invite you walk and roam the outdoor site.
