Summer Tours of the Historic Orpheum

July 12 2016, 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Summer Tours of the Historic Orpheum. This summer, BC Entertainment Hall of Fame (BCEHOF) in Partnership with Vancouver Civic Theatres (VCT) are offering FREE guided tours of the Orpheum, one of the most beautiful concert halls in North America. The Orpheum, a designated National Heritage Site was built in 1927. Home to the beloved Vancouver Symphony Orchestra; the theatre also hosts international musicians, popular concerts and unique events throughout the year.. Event detailsWorld renowned theatre architect, Marcus Priteca designed over 220 theatres in North America and the Orpheum is considered one of his finest accomplishments. The Orpheum boasts soaring lines, gold leaf, grand staircases and over 140 original crystal chandeliers. The Orpheum was built as a vaudeville theatre and silent movie palace. It still houses the "Mighty Wurlitzer Organ" which is the last theatre organ in Canada still in its original home. The tour includes stair climbing and may be challenging for those with mobility issues, it is not recommended to children under 8 years of age. Registered participants should arrive at the Orpheum's Granville Street entrance at least 10 minutes prior to the 11am start time. Orpheum Tours are limited to a maximum of 30 people on a first come first served basis for reservation please call 604.665.3047. As the Orpheum is a working theatre, tours, availability and content may vary.The Orpheum is a member of the VCT venue collective which also includes the Queen Elizabeth Theatre and Plaza, Vancouver Playhouse and ANNEX.  The FREE tours are made possible by the VCT underutilization grant which was approved by Mayor and Council to bring community focused events and programming to the VCT.  ..
