The 45th Ave Jazz Band, a full 17 person jazz ensemble under the direction of drummer and composer Jaelem Bhate, will present a concert featuring works exclusively by Canadian Jazz composers, with music by Rob McConnell, Phil Nimmons, Fred Stride, Alan Matheson, Hugh Fraser and more.. Event detailsCanada has been, and continues to be, home to some of the most innovative and influential jazz writers in history. The band will pay homage to how the legacy of just a sampling of these writers has influenced the modern jazz scene today, and will feature two of the composers themselves—Alan Matheson on trumpet, and Fred Stride on piano.About 45th Avenue Jazz BandThe band is big. The band is jazzy. And we got our start on 45th Ave in Vancouver. What started as a small community ensemble of only six players has grown into something no one expected—a full 17 person big band that takes on repertoire from the 20th and 21st Centuries, as well as completely new charts from director and drummer Jaelem Bhate. The band operates under the umbrella of the ‘Vancouver Orchestra Club’; a non-profit organization that provides a venue for musicians to play, sing, and perform together. There are three main groups: The Vancouver Pops Symphony, The Vancouver Pops Choir, and the 45th Ave Jazz Band.
