Written by Kempton Dexter, the play centre's on an Uber Vancouver Ursus Arctos Horribilis, aka Grizzly bear, just waking from his winter snooze. Our friend the Grizzly is full of stories and songs about the age old relationship between Human and Bear. This transformative piece, directed by and starring Vancouver Fringe Festival veteran Jacques Lalonde, will make you laugh and sing as well as touch you with it's very different way of looking at things. The old Bear is well past his prime and full of sage advice he has learned from his friend the Old Bat. The story takes place in the woods of course, the natural "Church of the Bear", complete with a bear choir. Audience members are invited to sing along. "This play is more experimental than what I usually attempt," says Dexter. Dexter, aka Hi-rise Dex, is a singer, writer and sculptor. In 2012 he published a collection of his short stories, Mrs. Ceperley's Garden and Other Plots, which is receiving wide attention. He has written and produced a number of short plays. Jacques Lalonde, the Bear, has been amazingly busy since graduating from Studio 58 in 1988. He hosted two nationally broadcast TV shows, REEL TV and pilot 1 for the CBC, had a recurring role on Madison (as a gay French hair dresser) and was featured on The X-Files, the Addams Family, 21 Jump Street and Sesame Street. Over one million kids and grown ups have seen Jacques perform live onstage with the Carousel Theatre, Green Thumb, The Arts Club, The Vancouver Children's Festival and the Comedy Festival as well as hosting LIVE CITY VANCOUVER at the 2010 Olympic Games..
