Memory Festival Performance: Mörkö Performance: Mörkö Type: Community All ages, Free drop-in Based on a collection of interviews from Vancouver residents around "monsters", the artistic team builds a landscape using audio recordings and objects found in the basement closet of the artist's childhood home. This interdisplinary performance integrates sound by Emma Hendrix and live video and animation by Cindy Mochizuki. The 45 minute presentation of sound and moving images shape a portrait of a city through the 'monstrous' – a space, creature or thing of fear that we often conjure in our everyday lives when faced with the unknown. Direction by James Long, Lighting by James Proudfoot, Technical Assistance by Asa Mori   Emma Hendrix is a sound designer and a media artist whose work focusses on creating environments through sound; investigating the delicate state of equilibrium we have with our sonic environment. He has performed internationally as 1/2 of the duo Coin Gutter, and received international awards for the interactive installation don't, stop with Julie Gendron. Recent works include: The English premiere of Heiner Müller's Macbeth: Nach Shakespeare; Tanya Marquardt's Transmission (nominated for a Jesse award for Outstanding Sound Design); the group performance Funhouse/Tradeshow in Fylkingen (Stockholm, Sweden). His work can be heard on http://soundcloud.com/emmahendrix Cindy Mochizuki is an interdisciplinary artist with a practice that moves across drawing, animation, multi-media, collaborations and performance. She is interested in the place between the documentary and the imagined; often integrating archival materials and interviews within the process of her work. Her short films have been screened in Holland, Korea, Toronto, Los Angeles and Montreal. Her most recent exhibitions and performances include: To | From BC Electric Railway 100 Years (Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art), Mörkö (Russian Hall), Yo-In Reverberation (National Nikkei Museum & Cultural Centre) and Lost Secrets of the Royal, (Blackwood Gallery).
